J. L. Prescott Liquid Stove Polish Bottle.

 Reads: LIQUID STOVE POLISH
MANUFACTURED BY
J. L. PRESCOTT CO.
NEW YORK

This is a nice clean bottle a piece of the cork still inside.

It has a small gouge (shown in the above photo) that was evidently made while the glass was still soft.  The glass from the gouge is on the surface of the bottle (smaller arrow).

I.G.CO.L…………..Ihmsen Glass Company, Limited, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (c.1876-1900). Also listed as Ihmsen Window Glass Company. Pittsburgh directory listings show this company included the “Limited” in their name from 1876 to c.1896. Bottles bearing this mark can definitely be attributed to this company.

The other bottle has no bottom labeling.

Vintage Hires Root Beer Extract Bottle. With Instructions.

The other side says PHILADELPHIA, PA.

Hire's Extract is still sold.  Here are the instructions for making your own root beer.

Homemade Root Beer

Carbonated with dry ice and ready to enjoy in just 15 minutes.

Making delicious homemade root beer with The Big H Root Beer Extract is as easy as ABC
  1. Add sugar and The Big H Root Beer Extract to cold water and mix thoroughly in an open food-safe container. Do not cover the container with a lid while preparing root beer since pressure created may cause the container to explode.
  2. Add dry ice to the mixture in a well-ventilated area and stir frequently to prevent dry ice from clumping to the bottom of the container. Continue to stir until all of the dry ice has dissolved. For root beer slushes add slightly more dry ice. (Dry ice is available at most grocery stores.) Preparation time: 15 minutes. Making the root beer is half the fun!
  3. Enjoy!

Boericke and Tafel Pharmacy Bottle.

In 1869, F. E. Boericke and A. J. Tafel formed the partnership under the name of Boericke and Tafel. Together they bought the pharmacy and book-publishing business of William Radde in New York City. A. J. Tafel moved to New York to manage the business.

l
In 1883, F. E. Boericke, in ill health, retired from the partnership. A. J. Tafel formed a new partnership with F. E.'s sons, Felix and Frank. In 1901, Adolph L. Tafel, the son of A. J. Tafel, entered the business.

Hays Hair Care Bottle

Hays Hair Care Bottle

Hand blown, dark amber, 1890s bottle.  Lots of waves in the glass.

Hay’s Hair Health was a hair product sold from the late 1880’s through the early 1940’s. Advertisements during this period indicated that it was manufactured in the late 1800’s by the London Supply Company of New York and later by the Philo Hay Specialty Company of Newark, New Jersey. The London Supply Company apparently started business in either 1888 or 1889.

Ornate Cod Liver Oil Bottle.

Cod Liver Oil Bottle (Brown and Scaled)

Scaled Brown Bottle With Fish.
I don't generally post screw top bottles, but there might be a few.  This bottle is so ornate that I made the exception.

I assume it is a cod liver oil bottle but don't know for sure.

The following is more typical of the cod liver oil bottles that I've found on the Treasure Coast.

If you know that the first bottle is not a cod liver oil bottle, please let me know.

Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription Bottle.

Dr. Pierce's Prescription Bottle.

Dr Pierce Bottle Labeled Buffalo, N. Y.

The other side reads: R. V. Pierce M. D.

This large bottle is in very good condition.  It has some fluorescent residue on the inside.

A quack patent medicine of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The product was widely promoted to treat "women's conditions". For example the following is from Dr. Pierce's Common Sense Medical Advisor. On p. 342, the following is noted: “Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription is an efficient remedy in cases requiring a medicine to regulate the menstrual function. Full directions accompany every bottle.” Further on p. 346: “Dr. Pierce's Favorite prescription. This is a tonic nervine of unsurpassed efficacy, combined in such a manner, that, while it quiets nervous irritation, it strengthens the enfeebled nervous system, restoring it to healthful vigor. In all diseases involving the female reproductive organs, with which there is usually associated an irritable condition of the nervous system, it is unsurpassed as a remedy. It is also a uterine and general tonic of great excellence. It is sold by all druggists.” Source: RV Pierce The People’s Common Sense Medical Advisor, 1895; Buffalo NY: WORLD'S DISPENSARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION.

Brown Cone Carter's Ink Bottle

Brown Cone Carter's Ink Bottle

Carter's Ink Bottle

Bottom of Same Bottle

Embossed on the bottom is "CARTER'S/1897/MADE/IN U.S.A."

This type of cone ink bottle was produced from 1897 into the 1910s. Earlier bottles are most often aqua and the later ones are clear glass. There was a paper label that no longer remains.

The date on the bottom is not clear, but I think it is 1897

Brown is a less common color and appears to me to be an earlier bottle. One of the first old ink bottle that I ever found was an aqua ink bottle.

The bottle has a few small barnacles and remnants of attached shell fish.

Carter's started in 1858.

Stoneware Master Ink Bottle made by J. Bourne and Son at the Denby Pottery.

J. Bourne and Son Stoneware Master Ink Bottle

Stoneware Bottle Found in Shallow Water
As the label shows, this bottle was made by the Denby Pottery near Derby.

This master ink bottle, like the other bottles in the bottles in the Bottle Barn, was wound on the Treasure Coast in shallow water or on a beach.

This bottle has a chipped pouring lip, but is in otherwise great shape.

This is the same type of bottle found on the S. S. Republic, which sank in 1865.

Consumer's Brewing Company Bottle.

A little research revealed that the Consumer's Brewery Company, as it is embossed, existed from 1895 until 1902, when it became the Arlington Brewing Company.  That makes the bottle older than I originally thought.
