Brown Cone Carter's Ink Bottle

Brown Cone Carter's Ink Bottle

Carter's Ink Bottle

Bottom of Same Bottle

Embossed on the bottom is "CARTER'S/1897/MADE/IN U.S.A."

This type of cone ink bottle was produced from 1897 into the 1910s. Earlier bottles are most often aqua and the later ones are clear glass. There was a paper label that no longer remains.

The date on the bottom is not clear, but I think it is 1897

Brown is a less common color and appears to me to be an earlier bottle. One of the first old ink bottle that I ever found was an aqua ink bottle.

The bottle has a few small barnacles and remnants of attached shell fish.

Carter's started in 1858.

Stoneware Master Ink Bottle made by J. Bourne and Son at the Denby Pottery.

J. Bourne and Son Stoneware Master Ink Bottle

Stoneware Bottle Found in Shallow Water
As the label shows, this bottle was made by the Denby Pottery near Derby.

This master ink bottle, like the other bottles in the bottles in the Bottle Barn, was wound on the Treasure Coast in shallow water or on a beach.

This bottle has a chipped pouring lip, but is in otherwise great shape.

This is the same type of bottle found on the S. S. Republic, which sank in 1865.

Consumer's Brewing Company Bottle.

A little research revealed that the Consumer's Brewery Company, as it is embossed, existed from 1895 until 1902, when it became the Arlington Brewing Company.  That makes the bottle older than I originally thought.
